Play as Red Riding Hood or Frankenstein in Crysis dev's new console and PC game

Crysis and Ryse: Son of Rome developer Crytek today announced Arena of Fate, an online multiplayer game in development for PC and consoles. Crytek says the game is "coming soon," but there's not a specific release date available yet.

Arena of Fate features 5 vs. 5 battles (it sounds like a MOBA!), and players can choose from well-known figures like Frankenstein, Jack the Ripper, and Baron Münchhausen, each with their own specific moves. Frankenstein can return from the dead, Jack can rip enemies apart with his cleaver, and Baron can launch himself across the map with his cannonball.

A business model for Arena of Fate was not mentioned specifically, but Crytek says the game will join its other "games-as-a-service" titles, like FPS Warface, which is free-to-play. Arena of Fate will be playable at E3 2014 next month in Los Angeles.

Arena of Fate is in development at Crytek's Sofia studio in Bulgaria (Knights of Honor, WorldShift). Managing director Vesselin Handjiev said the game will offer "greater accessibility," as well as "rich, deep, action-packed" gameplay." Characters like like Little Red Riding Hood, Joan of Arc, and Robin Hood will also be playable in Arena of Fate.

An Early Access beta for Arena of Fate will kick off this summer on PC, and you can sign up for a chance to play the early version at the game's website today. The game is also coming to consoles, but Crytek didn't provide a list of platforms.
