Sony has revealed that demand for the PlayStation 4 in Europe is still outstripping the supply of the consoles.
In an interview with TrustedReviews, Fergal Gera of Sony Computer Entertainment UK said that the PS4 supply chain is still strained and unable to keep up with demand from consumers. In fact, Sony hasn't even been able to fully meet day one demand: "We haven't yet caught up with the initial demand across Europe... We are still dealing with the day one market."
Gera also said that there are areas in the UK and countries across Europe that completely sell out almost immediately after receiving PS4 units. "There are countries that are still selling out every last unit that drops into the market on a weekly basis," Gera revealed. "A good example at the moment would be Germany who had phenomenal sales figures last week, but they just haven't had enough stock so far."
Although many companies would consider such insatiable demand a success, the inability for Sony to produce enough consoles has created problems. "We may have lost some sales," Gera admits, since PS4s still cannot be found, and Xbox One's recent price cut and its availability makes that a more attractive option. But Sony's confident it can recoup the loss: "We have spent a lot of time at E3 talking about the plan for Christmas and I think we've got enough ex citing content to be able to rekindle that interest."
The PS4 has sold incredibly fast since its launch last November. As of March 31, it had sold 7 million units, and it was the highest-selling console in May for the fifth month in a row.
