Activision and Bungie today announced what they are calling a "first-of-its-kind" partnership with energy drink company Red Bull for a special Destiny launch event that will see one of the game's developers jump out of an airplane to promote the game.
To mark the release of Destiny next week, one member of the Bungie development team (it's not clear who it will be) will skydive with an Optic Gaming coach and the Red Bull Air Force on Monday, September 8. They will then join gamers at a special Destiny launch event. Bungie recently announced a public Destiny community launch event on September 8, but it's unclear if this is t he same event for the Red Bull skydiving promotion.
The skydiving mission will be documented through a three-part web series called "Destiny Drop Zone: Optic Gaming Take to the Sky," created by Red Bull. The series will show you how the jumpers prepare for their skydiving trip, and the first installment will debut on September 7.
Activision's marketing efforts for Destiny have been extensive. There are massive billboards in New York City's Times Square, throughout the city's subway system, and Activision even launched a live-action trailer for the game last night during the NFL's season opener . In addition, Destiny was an official sponsor for the recently concluded Simpsons marathon on FXX.
Destiny launches September 9 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4. Retailer GameStop recently announced plans to open 4,100 stores next week for midnight launch celebrations. For more on Destiny, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
