Rock Band Creator Making Something for VR -- What Would You Like to See?

Written By blogger on Thursday, September 4, 2014 | 5:56 AM

Harmonix, the studio that created Rock Band and Dance Central, is working on a new project for Samsung's Gear VR headset, which was officially announced yesterday. The confirmation comes by way of Harmonix publicist Nick Chester, who sent out the following tweet.

Another Harmonix employee, Dawn Rivers, tweeted about the news.

It remains to be seen if Harmonix's Gear VR project is a game or something else entirely. But in any case, Harmonix is expected to reveal more details about its plans soon.

Gear VR is a collaborative effort from Oculus Rift headset maker Oculus VR--which is now owned by Facebook--and Samsung. The headset is unique in that is uses the newly revealed Galaxy Note 4 as its screen. Paired with the headset's adjustable lenses, the Galaxy Note 4's accelerometer and gyrometer are used to track head movement, in turn creating the feeling of virtual reality.

Harmonix is keeping busy with numerous projects. In addition to its Gear VR initiative, the Cambridge, Mass. studio will release twin-stick shoot 'em up A City Sleeps on October 16, which will be followed by Fantasia: Music Evolved for Xbox 360 and Xbox One later in the month. On top of those games, Harmonix is working on a new Amplitude title for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, as well as a free-to-play PC shooter called Chroma. The company has also spoken briefly about its "grand plans" to revive the Rock Band series for current-generation consoles.
