The Sims 4 has debuted at the top of the UK all-format chart, purely from physical sales alone.
Electronic Arts' popular life-sim is the first PC-only game to top the chart since the release of Guild Wars 2 in August 2012. The achievement is even more considerable when taking into account that the UK games chart does not yet calculate digital downloads, which tend to represent the bulk of sales for most PC games.
The Sims 4 is EA's third game this year that has debuted at number one - following Titanfall and EA Sports UFC. FIFA 14, which originally released last year, has also reached number one in 2014.
Chart success for The Sims 4 comes as a developer of the game explained that Maxis may not have a chance to develop a sequel unless sales milestones are reached.
Grant Rodiek, a producer on the Sims 4, wrote on the game's official forums: "We're not working on Sims 5. We're not thinking about Sims 5. If Sims 4 isn't successful, there won't be a Sims 5."
Elsewhere in the chart, Ubisoft's Watch Dogs climbed to second, pushing Metro Redux to third, while The Last of Us: Remastered dropped to fourth.

GameSpot's Sims 4 review was somewhat positive about the game, though critic Kevin VanOrd explained there were some disappointments.
He wrote: "The basic are sound; The Sims 4 is a joy to interact with, and relationships take various quirky twists and turns as they develop. But these are stories I have already told, and the stories I most want to tell seem just out of reach."
