Two weeks ago we learned that Final Fantasy III – aka the first good Final Fantasy – was on its way to Steam. And now thanks to Joystiq we know it will be available on Steam on Wednesday. Along with new and improved 3D visuals and additional story sequences, the re-release will include Steam Trading Cards and Achievements.
According to the Steam page, this release of Final Fantasy III will feature "Upgraded graphics for PC" – but so far all of the screenshots look identical to the Android and iOS releases, which were based on the 2006 Nintendo DS release.
Even as a fan of Final Fantasy games, I wouldn't outright recommend anyone grab Final Fantasy III – it's not a 'must have' game like VI or VII were. Nevertheless, it is an enjoyable JRPG, if you don't mind a bit of grinding. The remake added a lot of colour and life to the game and the new job system makes messing about with Professions a bit more worthwhile. Worthwhile enough for the $15.99 USD asking price? I can't say.
