Bayonetta Maker Would "Love" to Work With Nintendo Again

Bayonetta 2 looks to be shaping up nicely for the series' debut on Wii U, and Nintendo is partly responsible for helping to make it the game that it is. Working with the console manufacturer has been a positive experience for developer Platinum Games, and according to Bayonetta 2 director Yusuke Hashimoto, it would "love" to do so again.

Noting that some publishers constrain developers by forcing them to include certain elements to appeal to specific parts of the world, Hashimoto said Nintendo has instead afforded Platinum a great deal of freedom. "I feel that it's important to let your creativity flow and Nintendo has been able to provide us with the freedom to do what we had originally envisioned," he told CVG. "We were able to ha ve a lot of back-and-forth between Platinum Games and Nintendo and they were able to provide objective feedback; 'Maybe that's a little too much', or, 'maybe you should try this'. I feel that was really good and helped push Bayonetta 2 to even higher quality.

"We started out with a fundamental freedom, with Nintendo telling us to go and create the game as we saw fit. But as the game started to take shape and we were starting to put all the pieces together, they were able to point out some things that we didn't realize ourselves. That was really helpful for us."

Bayonetta 2 being announced as a Wii U exclusive in 2012 came as somewhat of a surprise--both because the first game was only released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and because Platinum doesn't traditionally develop sequels. With Nintendo publishing it, it's unlikely that Bayonetta 2 ever ends up on any other platforms, but what does the Platinum's relationship with Nintendo mean for the future of the series?

Asked about Nintendo's role in future Bayonetta games, Hashimoto said, "In terms of nurturing the content of this game, there's a lot that we learned from Nintendo and if possible we would love to do it again and keep nurturing our ch ild."

When it's released in October, Bayonetta 2 will include a digital copy of the original Bayonetta. It'll also include mechs and support for touch controls.

Just yesterday, Platinum annou nced its next game, The Legend of Korra.
