Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Xbox 360/PS3 Made by Transformers Dev

Activision has enlisted Transformers and Deadpool developer High Moon Studios to make the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, it was revealed in the latest issue of MCV, available today. Sledgehammer Games co-founder Michael Condrey told the trade publication that working exclusively on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions has allowed the studio to pursue its ideas to the fullest--never having to w orry about whether or not these concepts would work on last-generation systems.

"In development, you often constrain ideas--whether it's design ideas or technology solutions--to the lowest common denominator," Condrey said. "If you develop for all platforms, often it is the weakest platform that can be the constraint. It is the inverse for us with Advanced Warfare, where we have been designing for the highest resources, the highest-powered console generation. It has allowed us the freedom to think bigger and to go after new technologies.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is not the first high-profile game to split development duties between console generations across multiple studios. The Xbox One and PC versions of multiplayer shooter Titanfall were developed at Respawn Entertainment, while Bluepoint Games worked on the Xbox 360 version.

That situation ended up working well for Titanfall, but it remains to be seen what differences exist between the Xbox 360/PS3 and Xbox One/PS4 versions of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. The game launches--across all platforms--on November 4, 2014.
