Crytek USA, the new studio formed by numerous ex-Darksiders developers from Vigil Games, today announced their first project, a PC and console multiplayer game called Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age.
The third-person action game set in the late 1800s has you teaming up with three others to fend off "an onslaught of bloodthirsty creatures." Crytek says every battle wil l feel unique thanks to the game's "special content generation system" that makes it so you'll never battle in the same environment or face the same set of enemies twice.
Hunt also offers up boss battles with "truly terrifying monsters," which Crytek says will require "close collaboration" on the part of your team to defeat. It sounds like Hunt will be Crytek's latest fre e-to-play game, as the developer says it is the studio's latest "games-as-a-service" title. Others include FPS Warface and the recently announced MOBA-esque title Arena of Fate.
"In Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age, players will be counting their bullets and crying out for help as they delve deeper into the shadowy world we've created," Crytek USA CEO David Adams said in a statement. "From the outset of the development process, we've poured our imaginations into the game so that everyone who plays Hunt will discover a challenging experience that feels fresh, captivating and rich in possibilities."
Hunt will be on display at E3 next week, but if you can't make it to the show, Crytek plans to hold a closed beta for PC later this year. You can sign up for a chance to participate in the beta today at the game's website. The full game is slated to launch later this year.
Could another Darksiders game also be in the works? Adams said last year that, after the Darksiders franchise found no buyer during the THQ bankruptcy auction, he would like to buy the IP, but it's unclear if this ever happened. The most recent entry in that series was 2012's Darksiders 2.
