EVE Online Developer CCP Lays Off 49

Written By blogger on Thursday, June 5, 2014 | 1:00 PM

CCP Games, developer of the MMO EVE Online, has laid off 49 of its employees today.

These actions wrap up the restructuring process that began in April with the cancellation of the vampire MMO World of Darkness. 56 other employees were laid off immediately following the cancellation. World of Darkness was first announced in 2006.

CCP has released a statement regarding today's layoff: "As part of our strategy to focus on the EVE Universe, today CCP conducted a restructuring that resulted in the layoff of 49 people in our publishing organization," a representative told us via email. "Though it is hard to say goodbye to our friends and family, this action concludes the process we started several months ago. CCP has provided severance packages and job placement assistance for those affected."

The studio is currently working on a PC version of its PlayStation 3 shooter Dust 514, entitled Project Legion, and EVE: Valkyrie, a dogfighting game for the Oculus Rift and Project Morpheus virtual reality headsets. CCP will continue to support EVE Online, as well.

CCP states that the layoffs will not affect development on these titles.
