Gladiator and Black Hawk Down director Ridley Scott started filming for his upcoming Halo digital feature this week in the Titanic Quarter of Belfast in Northern Ireland, Microsoft confirmed to local news outlet Belfast Telegraph (via IGN). The project, directed by Ba ttlestar Galactica's Sergio Mimica-Gezzan, will debut this year exclusively on Xbox platforms.
The Belfast Telegraph has also obtained some footage of the shoot, showing a mysteriously dressed, gun-toting man moving through crowded scene. It doesn't look like a Spartan.
Notably, Scott's Halo project is separate from the Halo TV show that acclaimed director/producer Steven Spielberg is working on fo r Microsoft. The projects from Scott and Spielberg are just two of many examples of original video programming coming to Xbox platforms from Xbox Entertainment Studios, Microsoft's new production company that's head up by former CBS TV executive Nancy Tellem.
Other TV projects in the works at Xbox Entertainment Studios include a multi-part documentary series about the recent E.T. landfill dig in New Mexico, a World Cup-themed show, a comedy program from funny people like Sarah Silverman and Michael Cera, and a documentary from Oscar-winning producer Simon Chinn about how technology affects our world. Microsoft has not yet divulged any details regarding pricing for its original TV content.
The next core Halo game is Xbox One-exclusive Halo 5: Guardians, set to launch sometime in 2015. But you may not need to wait until next year to play a new Halo game. Microsoft is also reportedly working on a Halo mega-bundle for Xbox One that includes remastered versions of Halo: Combat Evolved (2001), Halo 2 (2004), Halo 3 (2007), and Halo 4 (2012) in a single package.
