Ubisoft: Wii U Could Shine at the "Right Price"

Wii U hardware sales jumped significantly after the release of Mario Kart 8 last month, and Nintendo could shift even more units if the system is sold at the "right price," according to Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot.

"With Mario Kart, Wii U made one step and we expect with Smash Bros. it will also do more," Guillemot told CVG. "If Ni ntendo put the right price on the machine then they will probably have a chance to do further." The Wii U currently starts at $299, a full $100 less than the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

The Wii U has sold 6.17 million units worldwide as of March 31, but Nintendo has not shared a new sales update since. Earlier this week, data from the NPD Group for May 2014 sho wed that Wii U sales jumped 80 percent over figures from April 2014 and 90 percent year-over-year in the United States.

Ubisoft will release (at least) two games on Wii U this year: Watch Dogs and Just Dance 2015. In addition, Guillemot reiterated that Ubisoft has a Wii U game "on the shelf" and is merely waiting for further console sales to release this mystery title.

"Nintendo has to perform this year, otherwise they wi ll have less games," Guillemot said. "Justifying investing in the machine needs a larger install base."
