Even prior to the announcement of Assassin's Creed Unity--the newest game in the series scheduled for release only on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC--there have been rumors about a new AC game being designed for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Ubisoft has yet to confirm anything, but it appears we'll be learning more about that project soon.
During a call with investors today, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot was asked about the currently announced plans for Assassin's Creed. He confirmed the only official game is Unity for current-gen consoles and PC, but indicated we'd be receiving more information about something other than Unity "soon."
Ubisoft has now confirmed this is the case with GameSpot. In a statement, the company told us, "We are not forgetting 360 and PS3 players. You will hear more about our plans soon."
The publisher said in May that it wasn't yet prepared to abandon last-generation consoles. Guillemot even spoke directly about a version of Assassin's Creed for last-gen systems, saying, "We have not disclosed our plan yet for the Xbox 360 and PS3 SKUs." If you're wondering why Unity isn't simply being release d for all platforms, as Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag was, it's because the game couldn't be done on last-gen hardware.
Previous reports suggested this 360 and PS3 game, known as Assassin's Creed Comet, would put players in the role of a Templar, the antagonists of the series. It would also be set at least partiall y in New York and allow for players to sail in the Atlantic Ocean.
We'll continue to be on the lookout for news regarding a last-gen Assassin's Creed and will report back when we have more details.
