NBA 2K15 launched today in North America for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC. In a statement heralding the game's release, 2K Sports said the professional basketball game, which features Kevin Durant on its cover and a soundtrack compiled by Pharrell Williams, will set a new standard for sports games.
"NBA 2K15 is one of the most ambitious sports titles in video game history," 2K Sports executive Greg Thomas said in a statement. "We've surpassed our own goals to move this franchise in new directions by pushing the boundaries of both hardware and software technologies to create a game that will change what fans can expect from sports simulations."
Among the new features for NBA 2K15, at least for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC versions, is a new facial scanning system that lets you bring your face into the game. On the gameplay side, 2K says NBA 2K15 delivers more than 6,000 new on-court animations, as well as new defensive AI and shooting systems, and an emphasis on giving players more control.
NBA 2K15 also sports a new MyCareer mode that lets players develop their character from an undrafted rookie to an NBA superstar. This mode features a new upgra de system, badges that reflect how you perform on-court, and coaching advice from NBA veteran Doc Rivers. In addition, NBA 2K15 brings back the competitive street mode, MyPark.
Other new features for NBA 2K15 include an"updated broadcast style" and pre-game show from Ernie Johnson and Shaquille O'Neal, which should help deliver "more authentic commentary and analysis on the action." Lastly, NBA 2K15 features a new, community-focused hub called NBA 2KTV.
NBA 2K15 was developed by 2K's Visual Concepts studio. The game launches internationally on October 10. For more, check back later this week to see GameSpot's review.
