Nintendo's Amiibo Figures Cost £11 Each in UK

Written By blogger on Thursday, September 4, 2014 | 4:05 AM

Nintendo UK has set the price for its Amiibo range of figures at £11 each.

The price is somewhat similar to what Activision is charging for its individual Skylanders toys, which usually retail between £9 and £12. They also tend to be cheaper than individual Disney Infinity figures, which individually cost about £15.

Like with Skylanders and Disney Infinity, Nintendo's Amiibo toys contain NFC technology which can transfer data wirelessly to a game console. In the case of Amiibo, the various figures can be placed on the Wii U's GamePad or the New 3DS, thereby unlocking additional content in certain games.

A figure of Link from the Zelda series, for example, could theoretically be placed on the Wii U GamePad when playing Mario Kart 8 to unlock Link as a playable character. Nintendo has not yet revealed the specifics of how Amiibo will work on certain games.

Twelve Amiibo figures will be sold at first. They are:

  • Mario
  • Wii Fit Trainer
  • Fox McCloud
  • Kirby
  • Donkey Kong
  • Marth
  • Link
  • Samus
  • Villager
  • Princess Peach
  • Yoshi
  • Pikachu

Buying all of these would cost more than £130.

Nintendo revealed the NFC toys during its E3 digital press conference in July. The first game to use Amiibo will be Super Smash Bros for Wii U, allowing players to save their stats and fighting styles to their figures.
