The games.on.net community will no doubt be familiar with the frivolity that is case modding. It opens up the world to all kinds of zany ideas for computers, including suit cases, fridges, toasters, plastic resin, you name it.

But case modding isn't just limited to PCs – it can be done with consoles as well, something engineer Ed Zarick has reminded us of with his latest creation: the Xbook. On his website, Zarick says the model is an upgraded version of similar mods he constructed for Xbox 360s, whereby he took the casing to create something a little more portable.

"I wanted this new xbook to be cleaner, thinner, easier to build, and more over all more cool. The xbook 360 had a 19″ 720p screen, I wanted bigger and better! So I went with a 22″ LED LCD monitor. This things is incredible sharp, as it should be at 1080p resolution," he wrote.

Zarick adds that the entire unit can be built for US$1,095, if you provide the Xbox One. HDMI Out costs an additional US$50 and if you want to purchase a brand new one and have it modded all in one hit, he'll put together an Xbook One 500gb model for US$1,395.

Customers can choose the colours of the accents and corners, as well as the acrylic and further graphic customisations for an additional cost. Other than that, however, the console is a stock Xbox One and "has not been altered in any way that would be illegal" on Xbox Live.

Seems like the kind of thing you'd want to splash on for your special someone – if they're a huge Xbox One fan, that is.
